Airfield Estates Mustang 2019 £37.50
Airfield Estates Mustang 2019 is a bold red wine from Yakima Valley in Washington, crafted in a Rhone-inspired style. Expect dark, inviting aromatics of cassis, ripe sweet plums and juicy strawberry jam, lifted by a cool, mineral edge reminiscent of wet stone. With a 2019 vintage character, this red wine offers richness without losing freshness, making it an easy choice for both weeknight dinners and more considered gatherings.
On the palate, flavours deepen into roasted game, black olive, anise and a subtle flash of white pepper, creating a complex, savoury finish. A blend led by Grenache, supported by Mourvedre and Syrah/Shiraz, it pairs beautifully with grilled meats, peppery charcuterie and hearty vegetarian dishes. If you’re exploring Washington reds and want something expressive, layered and full of character, this is a standout bottle to add to your collection.

USA
The United States has confidently come of age as one of the world's top wine-producing nations. Its reputation may be founded on the global fame of Napa and Sonoma, but the U.S. is home to countless lesser-known wine regions producing world-class wines (obvious examples include Oregon's Willamette Valley and the New York Finger Lakes). Wine has been made in The States for around 400 years, but it is only in the last 40 that American wine really began to earn respect on a global scale. The U.S. is now the world's fourth-biggest wine-producing nation (behind France, Italy and Spain) and produces roughly 18.5 million hectoliters each year.
Washington
The Cascade Mountains create a rain shadow effect, blocking the wet conditions on the other side from the Pacific Ocean. The Columbia, Walla Walla, Snake and Yakima rivers provide much-needed irrigation, air circulation and cooling conditions. Ice Age floods left behind layers of sandy, volcanic soils which favor grape-growing and repel phylloxera (along with the cold winters). This means grapes are grown from single root stocks instead of the hybrids found in most of the world to prevent the spread of Phylloxera. Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Chardonnay are the most popular varietals cultivated. These benefit from a long growing season that promotes proper phenolic balance in the grapes.
