Domaine Leon Boesch Riesling 2023 £23.50
Domaine Léon Boesch Riesling 2023 is a beautifully expressive Alsace white, crafted in the Alsace Riesling style with a focus on purity and freshness. Made from Riesling grown in biodynamically tended vines on limestone and sandstone-clay soils, it delivers bright character in every glass. Expect a refined, aromatic profile of ripe citrus, with flavours that echo mandarin and ripe grapefruit, lifted by a crisp, palate-cleansing acidity.
The finish is long and quietly compelling, carrying a subtle saline note that makes it feel effortlessly moreish. This is the sort of Riesling that pairs beautifully with light seafood, creamy dishes, or simply a relaxed evening of good company. If you enjoy wines that taste vibrant yet elegant, this 2023 vintage from Alsace is an easy choice from the range.

France
Few would argue that France is the country that long ago set the standards by which wine is judged. There are of course exceptions; Germany's Rieslings, Spain's Sherry and Portugal's Port are examples of non-French wines that are universally accepted as models to be admired and emulated. But no other country in the world can boast anything like France's influence over the wine world's now well-established benchmarks. The wine styles produced in Champagne, Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire and the Rhone have become targets that countless winegrowers around the world aim at, in the first instance by planting the same grape varieties. If you still have a bit of exploring to do before you can say you know well the world of wine, there can be no better place to start (or finish!) than France.
Alsace
Tucked into France's northeastern corner, Alsace follows the Rhine River through its long, thin strip. The Vosges Mountains protect and provide Alsace with a backdrop for some of France’s most stunning scenery.
Alsace’s claim to pure expression is undisputed—by the people who make the wines and those who drink them. Intimately connected with their parcels of land, winemakers here like to say you can taste the essence of Alsace in each wine … and it’s true. Every swirl in the glass releases layers of pure fruit, flower or spice, every sip reveals fresh minerality. With a diverse range of styles, there’s an Alsace wine for every taste and occasion.
Over 90% of Alsace wines are made from white grape varieties. Aromatic and balanced with impressive acidity and structure, these wines are remarkably food friendly...
Unlike most regions, all Alsace wines are appellation wines—defined and protected by French wine laws to ensure consistent and the highest-quality winemaking. They belong to one of 53 Appellations d’Origine Contrôlées (AOC)--51 of which are Grands Crus--depending on their viticulture and vinification.
