Piquepoul
Piquepoul is a lively white wine grape that’s particularly associated with the sun-drenched Languedoc region in southern France. Often grown near the Mediterranean, it benefits from a warm climate and cooling sea breezes, which helps the grapes keep their natural freshness. That’s why Piquepoul wines are so often described as crisp, bright and wonderfully refreshing, with flavours that can range from zesty citrus and green apple to hints of pear and delicate floral notes.
In the glass, you’ll typically find a pale straw appearance and a clean, mouth-watering character. The acidity is usually well balanced, making it an excellent choice if you enjoy white wines with a bit of energy rather than heaviness. Depending on the producer and vintage, you may also notice a subtle salinity or mineral edge, a style many people love with coastal-inspired dishes.
If you’re building a mixed case or simply looking for a versatile everyday white, Piquepoul is a great place to start. It pairs neatly with seafood, salads, fresh cheeses and light tapas, and it also works beautifully as an aperitif when you want something that feels both easygoing and full of flavour.
